{"id":1704,"date":"2008-03-11T08:11:17","date_gmt":"2008-03-11T14:11:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/?p=1704"},"modified":"2008-03-11T08:11:17","modified_gmt":"2008-03-11T14:11:17","slug":"chicken-and-waffles-a-correction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/2008\/03\/11\/chicken-and-waffles-a-correction\/","title":{"rendered":"Chicken and waffles: A correction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night I posted that chicken and waffles was not a Southern dish but a dish that originated in L.A.\u00a0 Well, I&#8217;ve since learned that I received some inaccurate information.\u00a0 Kinda figured that my source on the matter, Skippy, a professional journalist, would&#8217;ve bothered to check his facts before he started flapping his mouth.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, I have a friend who knows everything &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/ottodestruct.com\/blog\/\">Otto<\/a>, who e-mailed me a link to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chicken_and_waffles\">the Wikipedia page on chicken and waffles<\/a>.\u00a0 There are several versions of the dish&#8217;s origin but all signs point to chicken and waffles becoming popular among Southern African-Americans in the 19th century.\u00a0 The recent national popularity of the dish is due to an L.A. restaurant, Roscoe&#8217;s, which has been serving\u00a0c&amp;w since the 1970s.<\/p>\n<p>Then again, Wikipedia has been wrong in the past as well&#8230; at one point, the entry for &#8220;tube top&#8221; claimed that a tube top could have a single strap around the neck, which is absolutely, positively incorrect &#8211; tube tops do not have straps, as I stress every June when this blog&#8217;s theme is Tube Top Month.\u00a0 But it looks like they are right on this one, as they cite relevant sources.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night I posted that chicken and waffles was not a Southern dish but a dish that originated in L.A.\u00a0 Well, I&#8217;ve since learned that I received some inaccurate information.\u00a0 Kinda figured that my source on the matter, Skippy, a professional journalist, would&#8217;ve bothered to check his facts before he started flapping his mouth.
