{"id":1705,"date":"2008-03-11T11:16:58","date_gmt":"2008-03-11T17:16:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/?p=1705"},"modified":"2008-03-11T11:16:58","modified_gmt":"2008-03-11T17:16:58","slug":"should-i-change-my-middle-name","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/2008\/03\/11\/should-i-change-my-middle-name\/","title":{"rendered":"Should I change my middle name?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Been toying around with an interesting idea lately&#8230; I&#8217;ve been thinking about changing my middle name.\u00a0 My middle name by birth is Alexander, a name I have absolutely no attachment to.\u00a0 I believe it&#8217;s the name of some relative who died long before I was born.<\/p>\n<p>So I was thinking&#8230; if I changed my middle name to something beginning with a B, I&#8217;d be PBR.\u00a0 How cool would that be&#8230; I could walk into Hoop&#8217;s Bar or Calhoun&#8217;s and tell the bartender, &#8220;A PBR for PBR, please!&#8221;\u00a0 But what name would I pick?\u00a0 Let&#8217;s see:<\/p>\n<p>Paul Baines Ryburn &#8211; since Lyndon Baines Johnson was LBJ.\u00a0 Hmmm&#8230; that would make me sound presidential.\u00a0 Maybe.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Brent Ryburn &#8211; not feeling it.\u00a0 I just don&#8217;t see myself as a Brent.\u00a0 Of course, I&#8217;ve never seen myself as an Alexander either.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Brett Ryburn &#8211; hmmm, most of the Bretts I&#8217;ve known in my lifetime are really cool people.\u00a0 Maybe.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Barry Ryburn &#8211; hmmm.\u00a0 Not feeling it much.\u00a0 One of the new owners of Raiford&#8217;s\/Hollywood Disco is named Barry.\u00a0 Maybe I&#8217;d agree to name myself after him in exchange for free cover for life.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Benjamin Ryburn &#8211; no.\u00a0 There was a kid in junior high named Ben who brought a big black lunch pail to school.\u00a0 He got nicknamed Ben &#8220;Lunch Pail&#8221; Wilson the very first day.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not naming myself after Lunch Pail.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Bush Ryburn &#8211; HELL no.\u00a0 I shouldn&#8217;t even have to explain this one.\u00a0 Actually, my grandmother&#8217;s maiden name was Bush, so there is a family connection.\u00a0 But still &#8211; no, no, no, never.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Blaine Ryburn &#8211; no.\u00a0 The name Blaine makes me think of Blaine and Antoine, the two flamingly gay movie reviewers from <em>In Living Color<\/em>. \u00a0 &#8220;&#8216;Toine!\u00a0 Don&#8217;t be mad!\u00a0 Now this film&#8230; is about these hot, sweaty mens&#8230; all locked up in prisons together &#8211; dropped the soap, I&#8217;ll get it!\u00a0 I give this movie <em>two<\/em> snaps up.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Paul Blue Ryburn &#8211; this one is a serious possibility.\u00a0 It&#8217;s good enough to be Pabst Blue Ribbon&#8217;s middle name, why not mine?\u00a0 Besides, blue is my favorite color.<\/p>\n<p>Wonder how much trouble it would cause me to change my middle name, as far as credit checks, background checks, that kind of thing?\u00a0 I work for a background checking company, guess I could ask them.\u00a0 Couldn&#8217;t be too bad &#8211; women change their last name when they get married all the time.<\/p>\n<p>Not something I plan on rushing down to court and doing tomorrow, but maybe one day in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Been toying around with an interesting idea lately&#8230; I&#8217;ve been thinking about changing my middle name.\u00a0 My middle name by birth is Alexander, a name I have absolutely no attachment to.\u00a0 I believe it&#8217;s the name of some relative who died long before I was born.
