{"id":1978,"date":"2008-05-02T17:38:37","date_gmt":"2008-05-02T22:38:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/?p=1978"},"modified":"2008-05-02T17:38:37","modified_gmt":"2008-05-02T22:38:37","slug":"business-where-i-worked-2001-03-destroyed-by-tornado","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/2008\/05\/02\/business-where-i-worked-2001-03-destroyed-by-tornado\/","title":{"rendered":"Business where I worked 2001-03 destroyed by tornado"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From June 2001 to December 2003 I worked as a programmer in Earle, Arkansas, at a factory\/warehouse that distributed household storage items.\u00a0 I&#8217;m now at home watching the news, where they&#8217;re showing video of the tornado damage in Earle this afternoon.\u00a0 It looks like the factory was totally destroyed!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m completely shocked.\u00a0 I hope my former co-workers are okay.\u00a0 It was a family-owned business and the type of place where most of the employees stayed for their entire career (although not me, as I got tired of the 30-mile commute each way after a couple of years).\u00a0 Reports of injuries\/deaths have not come in yet as of this post (5:20 PM).\u00a0 My thoughts are with my former co-workers and their families.\u00a0 Even if they survived okay, they&#8217;re probably out of a job now.\u00a0 And homeless, if they lived and worked in Earle.\u00a0 Many of the factory workers did, although the professional employees tended to live in Marion, West Memphis, or Memphis.<\/p>\n<p>Just sitting here stunned thinking, I could have been there.<\/p>\n<p>Video continues to come in.\u00a0 Police and other agencies have set up a command post at the Mad Butcher\/IGA across State Highway 149, which looks like it didn&#8217;t get hit.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m probably skipping Music Fest tonight.\u00a0 I want to be home or near home, where I have access to the latest news and can find out if the people I used to work with were injured or killed.\u00a0 If I go anywhere it&#8217;ll be somewhere close by.\u00a0 If you go, have a good time and be safe.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be there all day tomorrow and Sunday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From June 2001 to December 2003 I worked as a programmer in Earle, Arkansas, at a factory\/warehouse that distributed household storage items.\u00a0 I&#8217;m now at home watching the news, where they&#8217;re showing video of the tornado damage in Earle this afternoon.\u00a0 It looks like the factory was totally destroyed!
