luckily Otto was able to do it for me, since he lives nearby. I came home after trivia and went to bed. Woke up at 3 AM, and coughed and sneezed for half an hour until my throat was raw. The allergies were so bad that they were actually causing me to run a fever too. So I went to the computer, e-mailed the lead dev that I would be taking a sick day, then chugged an extra-large dose of NyQuil and knocked myself out for 7 hours. It did the trick… I could actually feel the bad stuff subsiding as I drifted off to sleep, and when I woke up at 10 the allergies were maybe 10% of what they were yesterday. I popped a 24-hour Claritin-D as soon as I woke up, and am considering cutting a second pill in half and taking an extra half-dose before going down to the park. That’s not recommended but I want this stuff over with. I know some pharmacy people read the blog… if the extra half dose of Claritin-D is really a dangerous idea, let me know.

The team captain showed up at the Saucer last night and handed out team wristbands and tickets to tonight’s Friends & Family Night. Met several new team members, and some of them stayed and played trivia with us… the extra brainpower led the Rapscallions to a first-place finish, bringing the total for our next party to $100.

I heard more rumors about the Monkey’s opening while there… heard “Thursday night (tomorrow), Friday morning at the latest” from one person and “end of next week” from another. I don’t know who to believe.

We had new team members who I had never met before but who read the blog. “Who’s the Nuh-Uh Girl?” they asked. She was there and I introduced her. “And we really want to meet your BFF,” they said.

“Former BFF,” I corrected them. She has a wristband invite to the BBQ tent, but I don’t know if she’ll show up.

A member of another BBQ team e-mailed to recommend highly the Cookers’ Caravan tour that happens Thursday-Friday 11:30-3:30 (tours every half hour). “We basically showed them how to prep a shoulder, and gave them other tips and tricks. We showed them all the equipment too.” He said it was a great experience and he got to meet a lot of interesting people, so his team is doing it again this year. My team is on the tour too. This is a good way to get the BBQ Fest experience if you don’t know a lot of teams.

All right… I need to get some food in my stomach. I don’t have anything in the house so I guess I’ll wander down to Cafe 61. Enjoyed lunch there last Friday. I’ll see if they have anything small to tide me over ’til Friends & Family Night this evening.

My allergies were just about killing me last night. They were so bad that I couldn’t make it Calhoun’s to drop off BBQ wristbands…
