Fantastic news for Memphis: Plans for the Byhalia Connection Pipeline have been scrapped.<\/a> The proposed pipeline was an example of environmental racism, its route to run through some of Memphis’ poorest and Blackest neighborhoods. It also endangered one of the purest water supplies in the country. They say pipeline plans were scuttled due to decreased oil demand following COVID-19. I suspect community protests had a lot more to do with the decision than the people in charge care to admit. Whatever the reason, I’m just happy the thing won’t be built!<\/p>\n
