This is unusual… I arrived at the Saucer about 1:30 for Sunday Fun Day, and I’m the only member of the Sunday brunch crew here!\u00a0 This never happens, but I shoulda predicted it… half the gang is out of town for a bachelor party, and most of the others are on a scooter ride.<\/p>\n
Since I’m all by myself, I think I’ll do things a little bit differently.\u00a0 I’ll have a couple beers here, and work on my latest and greatest website for a little while.\u00a0 Then I’ll take the laptop home and hit some of the Sunday football spots I normally don’t get to check out.\u00a0 I’ll give the Rooster a try, where Sam (my vote for Best Memphian of 2008) hosts the weekly NFL watch party.\u00a0 They have half price pizza during NFL games, so that might be a winner for lunch.\u00a0 I’ll also check out Jillian’s, which is trying to draw more locals for their NFL Sundays.<\/p>\n
A few beer recommendations before I go:\u00a0 Dogfish Head Pumpkin Ale is now on tap at the Flying Saucer.\u00a0 I had one last night and it was OUTSTANDING.\u00a0 Lots of pumpkin flavor and cinnamon.\u00a0 Unfortunately it’s not a Pint Nite beer, so even if you come in tomorrow to try it, you’ll have to pay full price ($5.50).<\/p>\n
They also have Buffalo Bill’s Pumpkin Ale in bottles, which is very good too.\u00a0 Last year it cost $4, but prices for transporting beer have risen considerably since this time a year ago, so don’t be surprised if it’s more.<\/p>\n
Also available once again in bottles:\u00a0 Dogfish Head Midas Touch.\u00a0 This beer is based on an ancient beer-brewing formula, from around the time of King Midas.\u00a0 Bottles are very expensive (I think $12, but don’t hold me to that) but worth every penny.<\/p>\n
