The Memphis Grizzlies host the L.A. Lakers at FedExForum tonight at 6:30. This upcoming game caused me to learn something about how TV coverage of games works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The game will be broadcast nationally on TNT. In the past this season, when TNT broadcast Grizzlies games, you had no choice but to watch them there – they had exclusive broadcast rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My producer friend tells me that is not the case with tonight’s game. TNT’s contract with the NBA specifies that it gets 6 exclusive games per team per season. Because TNT wants all the Ja Morant it can get its hands on, it’s already burned through its 6, with more than a month left. So, TNT will broadcast the game tonight… but so will Bally Sports South, the home of most Grizzlies games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, if you live in the Mid-South, I encourage you to tune into Bally and listen to the announcers who know the Grizz the best – your friends Pete, Brevin, and Fish. Grizz fan watching from out of market? No prob, tune into TNT in that case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
