{"id":2688,"date":"2008-10-25T11:05:33","date_gmt":"2008-10-25T16:05:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/?p=2688"},"modified":"2008-10-25T11:05:33","modified_gmt":"2008-10-25T16:05:33","slug":"recap-of-last-night-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/25\/recap-of-last-night-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Recap of last night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a couple of happy hour PBRs at Bardog with Mikey and John D, I headed to the Saucer at 7 for their Oktoberfest celebration.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghostriverbrewing.com\">Ghost River Brewing<\/a> was there with their specially-brewed keg of Black Magic, a black beer.\u00a0 I tried a couple of glasses and it was really good.\u00a0 Black beers are not like porters and stouts in that they&#8217;re not heavy; they&#8217;re easily drinkable.\u00a0 Sam Adams Black and Xingu are other well-known black beers.<\/p>\n<p>While I was there, I learned that Ghost River donates a portion of the proceeds from every keg they sell to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wolfriver.org\">Wolf River Conservancy<\/a>.\u00a0 Memphis&#8217; exceptionally clean drinking water is a key ingredient in their beers, so they have every reason to want to preserve its quality.<\/p>\n<p>Then I moved on to Orleans on Front at 8, where they were giving away free food in their &#8220;voodoo room&#8221; downstairs.\u00a0 The chef had e-mailed me and described the room as &#8220;the speakeasy Downtown Memphis has always needed.&#8221;\u00a0 It has lattice-covered low ceilings and a stage for bands, with plenty of table seating and a bar in the back.\u00a0 It has a New Orleans theme, of course, but friends who were there with me commented that it reminded them of downstairs\/basement bars they had been to in New York.<\/p>\n<p>They put out red beans and rice, shrimp, chicken fingers, and fried green tomatoes for their guests.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a pic of the Nuh-Uh Girl loading up her plate:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/nuh-uh-orleans.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2689\" title=\"nuh-uh-orleans\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/nuh-uh-orleans.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/home\/content\/p\/a\/u\/paulrybu\/html\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/nuh-uh-orleans.jpg?w=1200 1200w, http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/home\/content\/p\/a\/u\/paulrybu\/html\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/nuh-uh-orleans.jpg?resize=300%2C225 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 85vw, 500px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After that I headed back to the Saucer for a little while.\u00a0 I would have liked to go to the Orpheum party at the Warehouse (and was actually offered a free ticket, twice) but was just too tired to make the trip down there.\u00a0 Was home in bed by 11.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing definite on the agenda for the rest of the weekend, except for The Dempseys at Huey&#8217;s tomorrow night.\u00a0 Guess I&#8217;ll be in front of the laptop today, possibly writing WordPress plugins, and maybe some new articles for my consumer review site.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a couple of happy hour PBRs at Bardog with Mikey and John D, I headed to the Saucer at 7 for their Oktoberfest celebration.\u00a0 Ghost River Brewing was there with their specially-brewed keg of Black Magic, a black beer.\u00a0 I tried a couple of glasses and it was really good.\u00a0 Black beers are not &hellip;
