{"id":2695,"date":"2008-10-27T12:26:05","date_gmt":"2008-10-27T17:26:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/?p=2695"},"modified":"2008-10-27T12:26:05","modified_gmt":"2008-10-27T17:26:05","slug":"hard-work-and-spontaneous-fun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/27\/hard-work-and-spontaneous-fun\/","title":{"rendered":"Hard work and spontaneous fun"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Looking back, yesterday was really a great day.\u00a0 I realized I worked almost 10 hours on my websites yesterday, from 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM, minus time I spent taking a shower and relocating to Bardog Tavern and then the Saucer.\u00a0 Wow.\u00a0 I really got a lot done.\u00a0 On Sunday too.<\/p>\n<p>Then I put the laptop up and headed to Huey&#8217;s for the Dempseys.\u00a0 Ended up hanging out with a bunch of people from Calhoun&#8217;s (owners\/bartenders\/regulars).\u00a0 Max had never seen the Dempseys before and it&#8217;s always interesting to see the shock on people&#8217;s faces that a band can really be that good.\u00a0 We stayed through all three of their sets, and they wrapped up around midnight.\u00a0 At that point I had planned to go home, get 7 hours or so sleep, and then wake up for a full day of website development and freelance work.\u00a0 But then Lauren asked, &#8220;Where are we going next?&#8221; and I thought to myself, you know, I&#8217;m no longer imprisoned by cubicles and schedules, and I did just work a 10-hour day, and I was having a great time&#8230; why the hell <em>wouldn&#8217;t<\/em> I keep going?\u00a0 So I suggested the traditional Downtown end to Sunday night &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freeworldjams.com\/\">FreeWorld<\/a> at Blues City.\u00a0 We stayed there for about an hour, then wrapped up the evening at the Black Diamond.\u00a0 I got home about 2:30 I think.<\/p>\n<p>You know, I hate this cliche, but I&#8217;m going to use it anyway&#8230; yesterday I worked hard, and I played hard.\u00a0 Recently, I had someone suggest to me, having read Seth Godin&#8217;s book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1591842336?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=paulryburncom-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=1591842336\">Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=paulryburncom-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=1591842336\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/>, that I start a tribe of my own, that I lead a movement to encourage more people to think outside the cubicle and the 8-to-5 schedule to earn a living.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not a bad idea.\u00a0 I may do it.<\/p>\n<p>In other news&#8230; early voting hours have been extended.\u00a0 You can early vote at any voting location between the hours of 9 AM and 6 PM.\u00a0 Early voting ends Thursday, October 30, though, so you better hurry.<\/p>\n<p>Plans for tonight&#8230; Pint Nite Pint Nite Pint Nite.\u00a0 If Jack&#8217;s Pumpkin Ale, recently installed on tap, is available at the Pint Nite Price (I think it is, but don&#8217;t take my word for it), I may have to take a week&#8217;s vacation from my usual favorite Dos Equis Lager.\u00a0 Still thinking I may hit Big Foot as well, for Monday Night Football.\u00a0 $2 34 oz.
