I have a beer recommendation, and it comes from a man who knows a few things about that topic: Gary \u201cG-Rock\u201d\/\u201cMr. Value Drinking\u201d Smith, holder of 60 plates, soon to be 61 at the Flying Saucer. That means he\u2019s consumed at least 12,200 beers there.<\/p>\n

Gary says Goldcrest 51 is one of the best beers the Saucer offers. That was the beer the old Tennessee Brewery made, one of the top sellers in the country in the 1940s. About 10 years ago, the family that had owned the brewery found the Goldcrest 51 recipe and started brewing new batches.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut, Gary,\u201d I protested. \u201cI tried a can before the pandemic. I didn\u2019t think it was that good.\u201d As a PBR drinker, I have very high standards for beer taste.<\/p>\n

\u201cTry it again,\u201d Gary advised. \u201cThey had the recipe messed up at first. The adjusted recipe is one of the smoothest-drinking beers I\u2019ve ever had.”<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t get a chance to try a Goldcrest 51 yesterday but will soon. The Saucer and Westy\u2019s have it in cans.<\/p>\n
