Normally I go Downtown in the morning and come back in time to beat the get-in-free deadline of 2 PM. What was different with my four-hours-earlier-than-usual checkin?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I got a much nicer than normal dorm assignment for Sunday night, because it\u2019s first-come, first-served. I slept like a baby!<\/li>\n<li>I had to go to 10:30 morning chapel service. The speaker was Larry Baskin who preaches at 201 a lot.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>I got a hot dog, a bag of potato chips, and a cup of applesauce for lunch.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>I got in the shower line right when it opened at 1 and didn\u2019t have to wait most of the afternoon for my name to be called.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So there are advantages to checking in early. Am I gonna start doing that regularly? HELL NO for 2 reasons:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Once you\u2019re checked in, you can\u2019t leave &#8211; you\u2019re stuck at the Mission for the rest of the day! Which would be tolerable except\u2026<\/li>\n<li>The Mission doesn\u2019t have Wi-Fi, so I\u2019m cut off from the Internet when I\u2019m there.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> If you tried to contact me yesterday, sorry for the very slow reply!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>That\u2019s why there wasn\u2019t a blog post yesterday. Let\u2019s get on to the news.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Red sauce Italian restaurant Cocozza, which has enjoyed success on Mud Island, is opening <a href=\"https:\/\/dailymemphian.com\/section\/fooddining-guides\/article\/44834\/cocozza-american-italian-opening-in-east-memphis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a second location<\/a> on Yates Rd. in East Memphis.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s also a new Maciel\u2019s, in Bartlett at 3108 N. Germantown Parkway.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> You can\u2019t go wrong with anything on the menu, but my rec would be the chorizo huarache.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Behind the Headlines <a href=\"https:\/\/dailymemphian.com\/section\/metrobehind-the-headlines\/article\/44832\/behind-the-headlines-memphis-mud-island-baron-von-opperbean\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">takes a look<\/a> at the immersive \u201cRiver of Time\u201d exhibit being installed by artist Chris Reyes on Mud Island.<\/p>\n<p>D.J. Jeffries, a former Memphis Tiger, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.localmemphis.com\/article\/sports\/nba\/memphis-grizzlies\/former-tiger-dj-jeffries-has-been-added-to-the-memphis-grizzlies-summer-league-roster\/522-05091d5c-7b3b-4905-9dd4-2f4bbd28a654\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">will be on the Grizzlies\u2019 NBA Summer League team<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Grind City Brewing will present the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/s\/the-downtown-memphis-fireworks\/830320182491579\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Downtown Memphis fireworks<\/a> on July 4. Doors open at 3 PM with food trucks Chi Phi, MemPops, El Mero Taco, and Champs BBQ. Drink specials. Live music 6-9 by Mike Hewlett &amp; The Racket and others. $20 secured parking or park for free on the street at your own risk.<\/p>\n<p>Today is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.checkiday.com\/fe7f4e9962614148f8e4415d84a60c48\/international-chicken-wing-day\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Chicken Wing Day<\/a>. I recommend the smoked wings at Central BBQ or Momma\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>The Redbirds host Nashville in a rare Monday game tonight at 7:05.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Wimbledon begins today. Watching I as I type this. Carlos Alcaraz versus an Estonian with weird hair.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> The Estonian is not gonna advance but he\u2019s surprisingly competitive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The weather is beautiful today\u2026 it could easily be a stay-out-all-night day, but I don\u2019t have an agenda of stuff to write.
