Today is the 100th anniversary of Tom Lee’s daring Mississippi River rescue<\/a>. Although he did not know how to swim, he pulled 32 people out of the river and into his boat. One boatload at a time, he ferried them to safety on a nearby sandbar.<\/p>\n
