{"id":3502,"date":"2009-04-11T20:10:31","date_gmt":"2009-04-12T01:10:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/?p=3502"},"modified":"2009-04-11T20:10:31","modified_gmt":"2009-04-12T01:10:31","slug":"we-found-the-easter-keg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/2009\/04\/11\/we-found-the-easter-keg\/","title":{"rendered":"We found the Easter Keg!!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>All right, so when I complained about today&#8217;s crappy weather in the last post, I was looking at a temperature of 54 with a predicted high of 62 and cloudy.\u00a0 Clearly that didn&#8217;t happen.\u00a0 It was beautiful outside!<\/p>\n<p>About 11:10 AM my friend Mikey texted me the Fire Sale.\u00a0 &#8220;Have they posted the sixth clue yet?&#8221; I texted back.\u00a0 The Flying Saucer hid an Easter Keg somewhere in Memphis this morning.\u00a0 From March through yesterday, they posted five clues, and from those I knew the keg was in Cooper-Young (three of the clues were Oliver, Nelson, and New York, all streets in that neighborhood).\u00a0 The last clue was a four-parter, and Mikey called me and read it to me over the phone.\u00a0 You had to piece together four sub-clues to come up with a word.\u00a0 Tenth letter of Thomas Hardy&#8217;s beer was a D for the first clue.\u00a0 First letter of the 36th tap at the Saucer was the third clue &#8211; Mikey counted them down and told me it was Sam Adams, and therefore S.\u00a0 So I had D_S_.<\/p>\n<p>Second clue was ___ of the Hawk.\u00a0 I went through the letters and when I got to &#8220;I,&#8221; I realized that it spelled I of the Hawk &#8211; Eye of the Hawk &#8211; the name of a beer.\u00a0 So I was the second letter.\u00a0 Already knowing to look in Cooper-Young, that was enough.\u00a0 I called my friends Frank and Stephanie &#8211; &#8220;the keg&#8217;s at Dish!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We knocked on the door.\u00a0 No answer, and the door was locked.\u00a0 Dish doesn&#8217;t open until 5.\u00a0 Then we spent the next 20 minutes going through the bushes, the garbage, everything in the area.\u00a0 &#8220;Maybe it&#8217;s a mini-keg the size of an Easter egg,&#8221; I told them.\u00a0 No luck.\u00a0 We were about ready to give up, but decided to knock on the door one more time.\u00a0 We saw someone moving around inside.\u00a0 Frank called Dish, and found that David Nestler who runs the place was inside.\u00a0 We finally got him to the door, and he handed us the keg pictured below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/easterkeg.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3503\" title=\"easterkeg\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/easterkeg.jpg?resize=500%2C365\" alt=\"easterkeg\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/easterkeg.jpg?resize=300%2C218 300w, http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/easterkeg.jpg?zoom=2&amp;resize=500%2C365 1000w, http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/easterkeg.jpg?zoom=3&amp;resize=500%2C365 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 85vw, 500px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We threw it in the trunk and hauled it back to the Saucer.\u00a0 Our prize:\u00a0 A party for 50 (it was a party for 100 but we downsized so people would get more beer).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I drank a few celebration beers, then hopped a cab to Midtown for the crawfish fest and immediately wished I hadn&#8217;t.\u00a0 They moved it to the parking lot on the north side of Madison.\u00a0 The lot was packed to the point of being cramped, and by the time I got there (3:05 PM) they were out of crawfish.\u00a0 Plus Bud and Bud Light were $4.\u00a0 WTF?\u00a0 I&#8217;ll pay $4 for a beer if it&#8217;s a great festival otherwise, but this one was a disappointment.\u00a0 I stayed 10 minutes then decided to head back Downtown.\u00a0 I walked to Dragon China and ate, then walked toward Downtown, figuring someone who knew me would see me and offer me a ride.\u00a0 That happened &#8211; thanks Rachel and Beth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Changing clothes and heading back out&#8230; tentative plans are back to the Saucer, then Bardog, then Paula &amp; Raiford&#8217;s.\u00a0 Plans can change though.\u00a0 Glad I don&#8217;t have to go to church tomorrow so I can make it a late night.\u00a0 If I get up in time I&#8217;ll be at brunch at Majestic in the morning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All right, so when I complained about today&#8217;s crappy weather in the last post, I was looking at a temperature of 54 with a predicted high of 62 and cloudy.\u00a0 Clearly that didn&#8217;t happen.\u00a0 It was beautiful outside!
