Tonight I plan on going to the opening of the “Painted Things & Apron Strings” exhibit at the Majestic Grille.\u00a0 It features the work of Carolyn Olivia Dodson King, and there will be free hors d’oeuvres featuring the produce of Dodson Farms.\u00a0 There will also be a wine special – 3 tastings for $10.\u00a0 All works are for sale, and the Majestic Grille does not take any commission from sales – all the money goes to the artist.<\/p>\n
I’ve already been told that the Nuh-Uh Girl plans on showing up for the free hors d’ouevres.\u00a0 I’ll bring the camera.<\/p>\n
That’s not the only reception on Main Street tonight though… down the street, the Center for Southern Folklore will celebrate the launch of the new “Taylor Made” exhibit, celebrating the work of Reverend L.O. Taylor.\u00a0 The exhibit will showcase films, photos, and recordings made by Rev. Taylor from the 1920s through the 1960s.\u00a0 Special guests will include Beverly Bond, director of African-American Studies at the U of M; Michael Taft, head of the archive at the American Folklife Center, Library of Congress, and Martin Fisher, manager of recorded media collections, Middle Tennessee State University.\u00a0 The Center acquired the collection in 1977 and is proud to be able to display and preserve it for future generations using digital technology.\u00a0 The celebration runs from 5 to 8 PM tonight.<\/p>\n
