{"id":5560,"date":"2010-01-05T12:30:52","date_gmt":"2010-01-05T18:30:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/?p=5560"},"modified":"2010-01-05T12:30:52","modified_gmt":"2010-01-05T18:30:52","slug":"tue-update-jersey-shore-pub-crawl-king-cake-healthy-memphis-outlet-job-interview-help-how-to-do-an-end-run-around-corporate-firewalls-godin-app-and-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/05\/tue-update-jersey-shore-pub-crawl-king-cake-healthy-memphis-outlet-job-interview-help-how-to-do-an-end-run-around-corporate-firewalls-godin-app-and-more\/","title":{"rendered":"Tue update: Jersey Shore pub crawl, King Cake, Healthy Memphis Outlet, job interview help, how to do an end run around corporate firewalls, Godin app and more"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m dead tired today.\u00a0 I got to the &#8220;final table&#8221; poker tournament last night at the Silly Goose, and host Poker Jon informed us that &#8220;we&#8217;re going to do this WSOP style, with big stacks and long blind levels.\u00a0 Get comfortable, you&#8217;re going to be here for a while.&#8221;\u00a0 Uh oh, I thought, on a school night this doesn&#8217;t sound good.\u00a0 Still, with a cruise as the grand prize I had no intention of dropping out.<\/p>\n<p>Play started at 8 PM.\u00a0 Tournaments at the Goose usually take a couple or three hours, but not this one.\u00a0 All nine players were still there at about 10:30, and I looked at my average-sized stack and it was still more than 60 big blinds.\u00a0 Not long after that,\u00a0I eliminated &#8220;Satellite&#8221; who had won a tournament the week before to reach the final table.\u00a0 By 1 AM it was down to two others and me.\u00a0 I hadn&#8217;t eaten, I needed to get to bed and I surely wasn&#8217;t playing my best poker by that point.\u00a0 I called an all-in and lost, finishing third.<\/p>\n<p>So, no cruise for me.\u00a0 I was trying to figure out who I&#8217;d take with me if I won&#8230; I was thinking maybe Brittney from the Saucer.\u00a0 Not because I enjoy her company, but because it&#8217;d be a good chance to throw her overboard.<\/p>\n<p>Poker Jon had a really cool program on his netbook that manages poker tournaments.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll try to find it when I get home and post a link.\u00a0 He said it&#8217;s freeware.<\/p>\n<p>Ready for another themed pub crawl? There&#8217;s going to be a &#8220;Jersey Shore Pub Crawl 2K10&#8221; (search for it by that name on Facebook) on Saturday, January 30 with stops at Wet Willie&#8217;s, Silky&#8217;s, Club 152 and Republic. &#8220;Get your spray tan, your blow out, get &#8220;juiced&#8221; and join us for a crazy night of fist pumping and battling,&#8221; the event listing reads.<\/p>\n<p>The Peabody deli\u00a0is selling &#8220;King Cakes&#8221; this week in celebration of Elvis&#8217; 75th birthday.\u00a0 Chocolate cake with peanut butter and banana filling.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/twitpic.com\/ws56l \">Here&#8217;s a pic.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>MPACT Memphis is doing a <a href=\"http:\/\/ow.ly\/SCQJ\">Healthy Memphis Outlet<\/a> on Tuesday, January 26 at Pearl&#8217;s Oyster House.\u00a0 You can get plugged into a healthy lifestyle there.\u00a0 YMCA, Church Health Center, and the Memphis Farmers&#8217; Market will be on hand to give presentations, and you&#8217;ll be able to join MPACTive, an active lifestyle group for MPACT members.\u00a0 I definitely plan on showing up for this.\u00a0 Of course the Saucer is on the way to Pearl&#8217;s so it&#8217;s possible I may just go there and drink beer instead.<\/p>\n<p>Couple of useful items on Lifehacker today&#8230; if you are job hunting, there&#8217;s a service called <a href=\"http:\/\/lifehacker.com\/5438823\/better-talking-lets-you-practice-and-review-for-interviews?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+lifehacker%2Ffull+%28Lifehacker%29&amp;utm_content=Google+Feedfetcher\">Better Talking<\/a> that will help you practice job interview skills.\u00a0 It will call you and ask canned interview questions, then send you a link to your interview transcript.\u00a0 You can then show the transcript to friends and colleagues and get their advice.<\/p>\n<p>If your company&#8217;s firewall blocks my blog, Lifehacker has a post about a service called <a href=\"http:\/\/lifehacker.com\/5438829\/flexamail-helps-you-social-network-and-browse-from-behind-a-firewall\">Flexamail<\/a> that lets you surf websites and social networking sites using e-mail.\u00a0 They may be able to block sites, but it&#8217;s highly unlikely they&#8217;ll block e-mail.\u00a0 Yay for Flexamail for sticking it to the man.\u00a0 I can understand blocking Facebook or something like that, but my blog is a valuable public service that should never be blocked.\u00a0 I mean, how else\u00a0are you going to keep up with what the Nuh-Uh Girl has been eating?<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re a fan of marketing guru Seth Godin&#8217;s blog, <a href=\"http:\/\/sethgodin.typepad.com\/seths_blog\/2010\/01\/now-available-on-an-iphone-app.html\">it&#8217;s now available as an iPhone app<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Eating a bacon double cheeseburger from Burger King as I type this.\u00a0 Mmmm bacon.\u00a0 All right, I&#8217;m getting mustard on the keyboard so I&#8217;m going to hit Publish and be done.\u00a0 Trivia tonight at 7.\u00a0 I hope Brick is working so she can share more of her knowledge with our team.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m dead tired today.\u00a0 I got to the &#8220;final table&#8221;
