{"id":7265,"date":"2010-07-11T10:57:20","date_gmt":"2010-07-11T15:57:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/?p=7265"},"modified":"2010-07-11T10:57:20","modified_gmt":"2010-07-11T15:57:20","slug":"beer-the-value-factor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/2010\/07\/11\/beer-the-value-factor\/","title":{"rendered":"Beer &#8211; the &#8220;value factor&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night I developed a new unit of measure &#8211; a beer&#8217;s &#8220;value factor.&#8221;\u00a0 It is measured as (ounces per beer) * (% ABV) \/ cost.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a way of determining which beer gives you the most bang for your buck.<\/p>\n<p>To give an example of the value factor of a well known beer, let&#8217;s use John D&#8217;s favorite, the Bud Light bottle.\u00a0 It would compute to 12 * 4.2% \/ $3.25 = 0.16.<\/p>\n<p>Victory Hop Wallop at the Saucer has a high value factor.\u00a0 It would be 16 * 8.25% \/ $5.50 = 0.24.<\/p>\n<p>Foster&#8217;s Oil Can at the Saucer also scores high.\u00a0 Its value factor is 25 * 5.1% \/ $5.50 = 0.23.<\/p>\n<p>For the best value factor though, go to Calhoun&#8217;s.\u00a0 PBR there: 16 * 5.0% \/ $2 = 0.4.<\/p>\n<p>Hop Wallop&#8217;s value factor did the trick last night.\u00a0 I got to the Saucer at 10:30, absolutely fuming.\u00a0 I&#8217;d just busted out of a poker tournament, and it was one of the few times I actually got mad about a hand, as my Aces over Fours full house lost to a better full house of Aces over Sevens.\u00a0 Hop Wallop did the trick, and three beers later I had forgotten that poker even existed.\u00a0 As I walked out of the Saucer I ran into some people and went to Rehab Disco, where I had a very good time at their downstairs bar, Rockbottom.\u00a0 They told me they have a beer pong tournament every Thursday night.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll have to check that out.<\/p>\n<p>Ah.
