Today at the CCC annual luncheon, Mayor Wharton announced some good news that Downtowners have been waiting to hear.\u00a0 Starting August 1, Downtowners will see cops on the beat.\u00a0 There will be five cops assigned to this duty, four on bikes supported by one in a patrol car, and they initially will be working from 10 AM to 6 PM Tuesday through Saturday.\u00a0 They will support the efforts of the Downtown safety patrol, in an effort to crack down on the crimes that make Downtown feel unsafe to those not familiar with the area – aggressive panhandling and alcohol-fueled disorderly conduct.\u00a0 Furthermore, the cops will cover South Main as well as the Downtown core.<\/p>\n
