{"id":7841,"date":"2010-09-23T09:50:53","date_gmt":"2010-09-23T14:50:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/?p=7841"},"modified":"2010-09-23T09:50:53","modified_gmt":"2010-09-23T14:50:53","slug":"hungover-cubicle-free-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.paulryburn.com\/blog\/2010\/09\/23\/hungover-cubicle-free-post\/","title":{"rendered":"Hungover, cubicle-free post"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I think I&#8217;m going to swear off liquor altogether.\u00a0 Not all alcohol, mind you &#8211; beer will still be on the agenda for sure &#8211; but lately liquor has not led to good things.<\/p>\n<p>With a party to attend and a vacation day today, my plan was to have a blast at the Memphis Flyer party, then come back Downtown and hang out at the Saucer until close, and then try to carry on at either Bardog or the Silly Goose.\u00a0 Didn&#8217;t happen.<\/p>\n<p>The plans changed at the Flyer party, when Air Traffic Mike and I decided to do Fireball shots with the Bardog winners.\u00a0 A few minutes later, another Fireball shot arrived.\u00a0 Followed by another one 40 minutes or so later.\u00a0 By the time I made it back Downtown to Bardog and then the Saucer, I was wobbly.\u00a0 Only made it a little past midnight.<\/p>\n<p>The food at the Memphis Flyer&#8217;s Best of Memphis party was superb.\u00a0 I actually had to pick and choose and not load up at the first food station I went to, because there&#8217;s only so much room on a plate.\u00a0 Pizza from Memphis Pizza Cafe was an obvious selection, as were BBQ nachos from Central BBQ.\u00a0 And the sushi!!!\u00a0 All three sushi winners &#8211; Sekisui, Blue Fin, and Sekisui Pacific Rim &#8211; catered the event, and the sushi was just amazing.\u00a0 Sushi covered a good portion of the real estate on my plate.<\/p>\n<p>It was also good seeing the new Playhouse on the Square.\u00a0 Tip for those who haven&#8217;t been there &#8211; there&#8217;s a bar at the back of the first floor that is very very comfortable.\u00a0 It kinda feels like &#8220;Cheers.&#8221;\u00a0 The stage and seating area is a big improvement over the old space.\u00a0 The new theater is very well done.<\/p>\n<p>And yet, I kinda didn&#8217;t like it as a venue for the Flyer party.\u00a0 Previous parties have tended to be in big, open spaces, like last year&#8217;s at Minglewood Hall, with food stations and bars along the walls.\u00a0 I think those venues work better for this kind of party than Playhouse.\u00a0 And WTF was up with &#8220;business casual attire&#8221; on the invitations?\u00a0 A dress code at a Flyer party makes about as much sense as my BBQ team throwing a potluck and saying &#8220;vegetarian dishes only please.&#8221;\u00a0 Dress code or not, I wore jeans.<\/p>\n<p>All right&#8230; trying to clear the cobwebs out of my head and get the day started.\u00a0 I may make some changes to the layout of my blog today and get rid of some of the sidebars I haven&#8217;t updated in a while.\u00a0 Also need to get back in touch with someone who claims they can serve up relevant ads on my blog.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t mind ads on here if they are indeed relevant &#8211; for example, Groupon is relevant because restaurant deals are something my readers would be interested in.\u00a0 Car insurance is not relevant.\u00a0 I may give it a shot, but if I don&#8217;t like it I won&#8217;t hesitate to take it down.<\/p>\n<p>Also going to go through the list of Best of Memphis winners, and will post comments about the poll.\u00a0 Check back &#8211; I&#8217;m not confined to a schedule and a cubicle today, so there will be more posts!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I think I&#8217;m going to swear off liquor altogether.\u00a0 Not all alcohol, mind you &#8211; beer will still be on the agenda for sure &#8211; but lately liquor has not led to good things.
