RiverArtsFest is this weekend, Oct 24-25. Plus football, dog blog, more

The big event this coming weekend will be RiverArtsFest in the South Main Arts District. On Saturday and Sunday, October 24 and 25, streets around South Main and G.E. Patterson will be blocked off for this festival, the Mid-South’s longest running juried arts festival.

Complete info about RiverArtsFest can be found here. 185 artists will display and sell their works in an open-air setting. There will be live entertainment on four stages, and food and beverage vendors. Hours will be 10-7 Saturday and 10-6 Sunday, with the artists’ market closing at 6 PM both days. Festival is free to the public.

The night before, Friday 10/23, there will be a preview party at Central Station from 6 to 9. $25 donation gets you beverages and gourmet food from area restaurants, music and art karaoke, and a silent auction where you can get first dibs on the work of the festival artists.

Hmmmm Calhoun’s is on the festival route… and I have $30 in gift certificates from there, thanks to two Thursday night poker tournament wins. $30 will buy a lot of PBR.

In other news: After Arkansas’ strong performance against Florida Saturday, ‘Bama jumped Florida in one poll but not the other. Glad to see that Arkansas received votes in both polls despite falling to 3-3. After beating Ole Miss this Saturday, we will likely crack the Top 25. Go Hogs!

Doggie update: The blue pit bull pictured in a post from yesterday, with no aggression and perfect markings, still needs a home. I did get e-mail from a local blogger who writes the Persian Pit Bull blog. She said she will be happy to answer any questions about the breed or provide advice. If you’re interested in adopting the doggie, shoot me an e-mail at paul@paulryburn.com.

Recap of yesterday: Sunday Fun Day. Brunch at Majestic, pool at the Saucer, Kooky Canuck for a late lunch. Magan was bartending. Someone left her a note saying, “I want a ride on the Magan Wagan.” Haha. We had a good crew for Sunday Fun Day yesterday, although some of the gang was out on a scavenger hunt for a diamond by King Diamonds. They were riding their bikes around town searching for clues to locate a $12,000 hidden somewhere Downtown. According to posts I’ve seen on Facebook this morning, it looks like Joel and Tony from Superior Bar found it.

Coming soon… my friend Mary Pat is running to raise money from St. Jude, and I’ll post a link to her website where you can make a donation. I only need two words to summarize my plans for tonight – PINT NITE!!!
