Below is a list of locations where you can connect to free wireless Internet in Downtown Memphis. Most are unsecured networks; for a few of them, you’ll need to ask the staff for a network key. Know of a Wi-Fi hotspot that I missed? E-mail me at paul@paulryburn.com and let me know.
Court Square, public wireless provided by Center City Commission. Not recommended due to large number of panhandlers in park.
Tobacco Bowl, cigar store/coffee shop, on Madison between Second and Third.
Bon Ton Cafe, breakfast/lunch diner, on Monroe between Second and Third.
Sauces, upscale restaurant/bar, on Main between Union and Gayoso.
Wang’s China Bistro, Main at Gayoso.
Circa by John Bragg, upscale restaurant/bar, on Main just south of Gayoso.
Dan McGuinness Pub, bar/restaurant, on Second in the Peabody Place mall.
Flying Saucer, beer bar, Second at Peabody Place.
Majestic Grille, upscale restaurant, Main just north of Peabody Place.
Blues City Pastry, coffee/pastry shop, Main at Peabody Place.
Bluff City Coffee, coffee shop, on Main just south of Butler.
Calhoun’s Sports Bar & Grill, sports bar, on GE Patterson Ave. east of Main in the Arcade Building.
Also, because Downtown is so densely populated, it’s possible to get a connection in many places that don’t offer free Wi-Fi to their customers via “MoochNet” – finding wireless networks left unsecured by individuals or businesses located nearby.
