BBQ Fest Day 0: Friends & Family Night

Tonight I headed to Tom Lee Park for Friends & Family Night, a special preview of BBQ Fest for team members and close friends and relatives only. Shot a lot of pics. Usually Mikey the Camera Nazi handles photo duties, but he’s busy being Mikey the Bartender and Mikey the Door Gestapo this weekend, so I have to take care of the photography myself.

Hanging the national flag of Turkey

Here’s a pic of the Nuh-Uh Girl eating. I believe this was the third of the 28 meals she had at Friends & Family Night.

Here’s a pic of Lauren eating a cherry.

Hanging lights in the porta-potties. We’re trying to make our restrooms female-friendly and we’ve been told by our advisors that lights are much appreciated.

The sign for the booth that team member/artist Barry created for us.

Our sponsor, Circa by John Bragg, one of the finest restaurants in all of Downtown Memphis. That’s John in the orange shirt.

Team member/Commercial Appeal arts writer Christopher “Skippy” Blank was about three and a half sheets to the wind and was sharing his philosophy on life with anyone who would listen. Here he is taking a hit from the team hookah.

I’ve started a BBQ Fest ’08 photo album on Picasa which you can view here. Every day I’ll add more pics to it. My plan is to exhaust my camera battery and the spare battery each day, which will let me shoot about 300 images/day, give or take. Currently the album has 35 pics from setup Sunday and another 130 from Friends & Family Night. More to come.

I headed to the Saucer after Friends & Family Night shut down. Roxanne Lemmon was playing and they were good as always, but the bar had about as many douche bags in it as on a typical Friday/Saturday night. One beer and I was OUT. Looked in Big Foot to see if my former BFF was bartending, but she wasn’t so I didn’t stop in for a beer. Watched some aggressive bums chase people down for a few minutes, then called it a night.

More to come tomorrow. Will try to update the photo album on a timely, nightly basis but no promises, especially not Thursday night with ’80s night at Raiford’s to follow BBQ Fest.
