Thursday night party info: LOTS of great music options

It’s not Thursday yet, but I have a couple of hours to kill before heading to the river, so let’s go ahead and get the Thursday night party list out of the way.

  • First and foremost… Memphis in May BBQ Fest. Tom Lee Park, $8 cover to get in. Park stays open until midnight. Ms. Piggie contest 6 to 7, winners announced 7:30-8:00.
  • ’80s cover band The Venus Mission plays the Peabody rooftop. That should be a great party. $5 cover, 6 to 10 PM, no cover for ladies before 8 PM.
  • Susan Marshall sings on the Madison rooftop, 5:30-10:30 PM. If you’ve caught Susan at Itta Bena you know how good she is.
  • Q107.5 patio party with Garry Goin and G3 at EP Delta Kitchen, 8:30-’til.
  • Snozberry at the Flying Saucer, $3 cover, 9:30 PM. Man this is a good week to hear fun bands on a Thursday night.
  • Kings of the Delta at the Red Rooster. Another excellent band. This is the best week I’ve seen yet for bands on a Thursday night. Ladies free all night, balloon drop and Bahamas trip giveaway.
  • Eric Hughes Blues Band at Ground Zero. For those of you who want to hear authentic Memphis blues as opposed to a party-rock cover band, this is probably the place to go. Geez, another excellent band. So many choices, and I’ll miss all of them because of BBQ Fest.
  • 80s for the Ladies Night at Hollywood Disco (Raiford’s). They may be playing 80s but I’ll be going there for the 40s. Heh. This will be my post-BBQ Fest stop. I have Friday off so it may be a late night.  Note that the club opens at 9 on Thursdays rather than the Friday-Saturday start time of 10, so people with day jobs can still get an hour or two (or in some cases, four or five) of partying in before bedtime.
  • Amateur Night at Club Lame, also known as Ladies’ Night at Club Atlas. Fantastic plastic people and expensive drinks. Why the hell anyone would go to this when there are so many GOOD Thursday night options is beyond me.
  • Trivia night at TJ Mulligan’s Pinch, 8 PM.
  • Ladies’ Night at Tug’s at the River Inn of Harbor Town on Mud Island. Half-price drinks for the ladies.
