Free Redbirds watch party at AutoZone Park and more Friday news

The Redbirds are one game away from winning the Pacific Coast League championship, thanks to a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th in yesterday’s daytime playoff game at AutoZone Park. The team is en route to El Paso for an away game tonight… but don’t worry, you can still see it. AutoZone Park is hosting a free PCL Championship Watch Party tonight at 7. The game will be shown on the video board and the club level TVs. Ballpark favorite concessions, including alcoholic beverages, will be on sale.

This month’s South Main Trolley Night on September 29 will have an Oktoberfest theme. It’s nice to attend an Oktoberfest celebration that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. I plan on being there!!

I don’t know if I have any readers who are big fans of the Memphis Farmers Market, but in case I do, you’ll be excited to hear about a new service called SingBean that will bring the Farmers Market to you. They are partnering with top vendors including Dave’s Bagels, Whitton Farms, and goat cheese seller Bonnie Blue Farms. You make your order and then can pick it up on Tuesdays at Trolley Stop Market between 3 and 8 PM, or you can have it delivered to you by Meals in Motion for $6.99. SingBean is in it soft opening right now but hopes to be fully going by next week.

Speaking of the Memphis Farmers Market, How You Like Them Apples? is the theme for tomorrow. Apples are ready for you to take home from the Market. Project Breathe will be there from 8 to noon, with UTHSC students there to distribute information about asthma and proper inhalation techniques. Live local music all day. The Market runs from 7 AM to 1 PM under the pavilion at Front and G.E. Patterson.

A new rickshaw company will debut this weekend to shuttle people around Downtown. The business will look to hire 12 to 15 full-time drivers, and will be available 10 AM to 3 AM seven days a week, with limited availability during the cold-weather months of January and February.

The Slice of the Day at Aldo’s Downtown location sounds like a good one.

Aldo’s patio is dog-friendly. Why not enjoy a slice and a glass of wine on Aldo’s patio with your pooch, then meet friends on the patio of the Blind Bear, also dog-friendly?

The Flyer has an article on pairing drinks with Indian food. I love Indian food! For beer, the writer likes a Wiseacre Ananda IPA. Excellent choice!

Game cancellations due to Harvey and Irma are making an excellent case that college football needs a second bye week.

The Mississippi River Monsters catfish tournament is at Bass Pro this weekend.

If you get a call from someone at Equifax it’s a scam.

Looking forward to the weekend! The Moody Ques have our second practice cook for Best Memphis Burger Fest on Sunday. The cooks are going to try a lot of different things and see what works best, and I plan on putting my expertise as a former judge to good use. With nothing else distracting the team between now and Burger Fest, we have time to tweak our product and run up our scores.

That’s it for now. Undecided whether to happy hour at Silly Goose or Max’s Sports Bar today, so it’ll be a game-time decision. Back tomorrow with more news.
