Wed update #2: Shelby County drops mask mandate

Health Directive No. 27 is out and it is now “highly recommended” that businesses require their employees and customers to mask up, but the businesses are no longer required or mandated to make that requirement.

It makes sense. COVID Act Now has Shelby County at 9.9 new cases per day per 100K, a fifth of the 50/day/100K level at which the CDC recommends everyone including vaccinated people mask indoors.

I’ve been openly flouting the mask mandate at some places I frequent for about 2 weeks now and no one has said anything. I’ve also witnessed health inspectors visit 2 restaurants in the past month, and they did not check for masking at all. Might as well remove the mandate since it’s clearly not being enforced.
