Wed update: Dogfish Head beer dinner, art/fashion at Hollywood Disco, Kooky MLK celebration, lunch with Darrell

SMA meeting last night was very informative.  I took detailed notes… too many notes to type up during a 45 minute lunch break, especially when I have other stuff I need to post too.  I’ll have SMA notes up tonight hopefully.

Here are the details on the Dogfish Head brewery dinner at Mesquite Chop House on January 27: Steve Barzizza, from Southwestern Distributors, will speak about the brewery and the specially crafted beers. The five beers, India Pale Ale, 90 Minute, Midas Touch, Palo Santo Marron and, to finish, Fort, are “big beers” ranging in alcohol content from 7% to 18%. Mixer at 6:30, dinner at 7. Here’s the menu:

1st course
90 Minute IPA paired with Chipolte Encrusted Pork Loin Smoke Bacon Mango Glaze

2nd course
Midas Touch Paired with Sesame Encrusted Ahi Tuna, Saffron Rice Cake
Currie Aioli

3rd course
Palo Santo Chorizo Stuffed Bricciole (pronounced Brashoal) Creole Tomato Succutash

4th Course
Fort Paired with Flourless Chocolate, Raspberry Coulis Chantilly

Americans trying to locate family members in Haiti should telephone the State Department at 888-407-4747.  My condolences to those with family or friends in Port-Au-Prince.

This Saturday, January 16, Hollywood Disco is having a Revolutionary Runway art show followed by a Euro party. Revolutionary Runway is a series of events combining high fashion with fine art. The show features 18 models and 12 artists with over 35 individual art pieces. The after party will be DJ’d by Dan Denysenko and will last until 3:00 am. Admission is $5 for those on the RSVP list or $10 at the door, and includes admission to the after party. Call 901-828-1875 to RSVP. View YouTube video of the event here, or visit Hollywood Disco’s website.

Kooky Canuck is having a MLK Madness celebration Sunday the 17th.  Celebrate MLK day a day early with 99 cent Bud drafts from open to close.  If you have Monday off, here’s a good place to drink late into the night for cheap.  I don’t have Monday off, but maybe I’ll go in the afternoon when Magan (known as “good Magan” or “nice Magan” among my friends) is bartending.

I got an e-mail this morning listing upcoming MPACT Memphis events, and I want to mention one in particular.  There’s a Civic Lunch at Sole restaurant at noon on January 29 with Darrell Cobbins.  Darrell is a member of the city government transition team, a commercial real estate broker, and a former president of MPACT… in fact, he was the very first person I met when I joined MPACT in February 2002.  If you’re an MPACT member and you have not yet met Darrell, you should definitely attend this lunch.

That’s all for now… I’ll try to get the SMA post up tonight.  I’m delaying the bonus Brick quote of the week until at least tomorrow.  We’ve had an overload of Brick this week.  Plans for tonight:  BBQ team meeting, and beer during and after the meeting.
