Tuesday update #2

Truck yeah! My Memphis Farmers Market commemorative T-shirt and koozies have arrived. I got these for becoming a Friend of the Market last fall.

This is my second post of the day, and there was a lot of good stuff in the morning post, so make sure you keep scrolling at the end of this post and check out the earlier one.

A new study has found that being a regular at a small, local bar is good for you. Bar regulars are found on average to be significantly happier, to have more friends, and to have better life satisfaction than most people.

You remember my post from last September, when an intoxicated homeless woman fell and hit her head on a trash can, and 911 had to be called? It took 9 minutes on hold before a dispatcher picked up. I commented at the time, if the call had been about a heart attack or a gunshot wound, the person would have been dead. Mayor Strickland and his team have deemed this unacceptable and are hiring 30 new part-time dispatchers to handle the phones. Thank you, Mr. Mayor.

Next Tuesday, February 9 at 5:30 PM there will be a Fat Tuesday celebration at St. Mary’s Cathedral benefiting the Hospitality HUB. There will be a red beans and rice cookoff and also fresh beignets. There will be live jazz. The event will be family-friendly and vegetarian-friendly. $7 admission, $4 for kids, $22 for a family of four or more.

A biotech startup in the San Francisco Bay area is promising lab-grown pork within five years. Interestingly, the company is named Memphis Meats. Perhaps at BBQ Fest 2023, the Moody Ques will become the first team to win Grand Champion cooking animal-free pork.

If you need to bring a food item to your Super Bowl party, Local can help. They have party platters with Spin Dip, wings, Local burger sliders, and Nashville hot chicken sliders that can feed 10-12 people. Call for pricing.

There will be an Artspace Lofts Town Hall Meeting tomorrow at Stock & Belle at 387 S. Main at 6 PM. Come hear about the transformation of United Warehouse into living space for artists.

Out of time. I still have more news so there may be a third post after work. There is already pooling water on the roads and storms are expected this afternoon, so be careful driving home and take it slow.
