Sunday update

The Vault has opened in the old Double J space. I wasn’t aware of its opening but friends told me they went there Friday night and enjoyed their visit. Here’s a link to a Flyer article from last month about The Vault.

Memphis Black Restaurant Week wraps up today with A Soulful Food Truck Sunday from noon to 6 at Clayborn Temple. There will be eight food trucks onsite and live music too.

It’s time to CALL THOSE HOGS!!! Arkansas plays Kentucky for the SEC tournament championship at noon today in a nationally televised game on ESPN. Win or lose (and let’s face it, probably lose), the Hogs are safely in the NCAA tournament field. Following that game is the AAC championship, Cincinnati vs. SMU. The Selection Sunday show will air on CBS at 4:30.

Thanks to our BBQ team pitmaster Frank and his lovely wife Laura for inviting me over for dinner yesterday. With the Atoka regional a mere three weeks away, Frank was in the mood to fire up the grill.

Of course the ribs and the shoulder were delicious, and that’s what matters most because those will be competing in Atoka. When I went back for seconds, though, it was for that yummy pasta salad! Whoever made it, can we please have it one day at BBQ Fest?

It wasn’t an official team function, but nearly the entire board of directors was at Frank’s and it was nice to see everyone. Knowing our team treasurer would be there, I brought money and got my team dues paid for 2017.

Sunset this evening will be 7:04 PM Central Daylight Time. That’ll give me an extra hour of daylight in which to sit in a dark bar and watch basketball and drink PBR and take pictures of a troll. D-RANKS with B-RAD is first on the agenda. It’s going to feel like I’m drinking a beer at 10 in the morning – which actually happens during BBQ Fest, but rarely this time of year. Back tomorrow with more news.
