Tuesday update

Another bridge over the Mississippi may soon see the light. Last year, an anonymous donor gave $12 million to light up the Harahan Bridge, site of the Big River Crossing providing a pedestrian and bike path over the Mississippi to Arkansas. However, the donation was also to light up the “M” bridge over I-40. That is the next stage in the plan.

Skillet: The Unleashed Tour comes to the New Daisy tonight, with opening act Devour the Day. Tickets are $32.50-38. Doors open at 6:30 and the show begins at 7:30.

Downtown Yoga is offering a free weekly yoga class in Memphis Park on N. Front Street tonight and every Tuesday during the summer. The first Tuesday of every month (which means tonight!) there will be a free wine tasting following the class. You’re encouraged to bring your own mat but they do have extras. 6-7 PM. The class is free but they ask that you RSVP. Get tickets here.

The Amazing Spider-Man is the free movie shown at Beale Street Landing this evening at 8:30. Free movies on the big screen all summer long.

The Commercial Appeal Sports Awards ceremony happens at the Orpheum this Friday, June 9 at 7 PM. Former Ole Miss and NFL quarterback Archie Manning will be the featured speaker.

A body was found in a drainage ditch at Third and A.W. Willis this week.

Nice to see a company doing the right thing: Amazon is rolling out a lower-cost version of Prime for low-income customers. Those who have EBT cards will qualify for Prime for $5.99 a month rather than the usual $10.99 a month. However, customers will not be able to use their cards to pay for Prime membership.

Alert for South Main residents: There is a creeper who has been spotted in the area following women around. He is said to be in his 50s with dark shaggy hair and has been observed touching himself and saying vulgar things. He is said to drive a white pickup truck and the two women who reported him both said the encounters happened early in the morning as they were walking their dogs.

In other Downtown crime news, several cars were broken into Monday morning inside at a gated lot in the 400 block of Monroe.

That’s the news for now. Stopping by Rachel’s Salon on N. Main after work to get a few inches of hair chopped off. Not too much, though, because my costume designer has told me my hair needs to be fairly long for Halloween. Yes I am already planning for Halloween and it is going to be epic. Anyway, after the haircut I will be out at one of the usual places for what remains of happy hour.
