Saturday update #2

The Flying Saucer celebrates its 20th anniversary of the Memphis location all day today. From 11 AM to 2 AM, there will be Bar Olympics. You can compete in beer pong, human foosball, a Big Wheel Race and more. Of course there will be special beers for the occasion, in addition to the 200 beers in bottles, cans, and on draft that they always carry. They’ll tap Sweetwater 20th Anniversary IPA, and Yazoo Embrace the Funk Sour and Wild Ales.

Broadway play Love Letters is at the Halloran Centre tonight at 8 PM. The play chronicles the relationship between rebellious Melissa Gardner and straight-as-an-arrow Andrew Makepeace Ladd III over the course of 50 years. There’s a special reason to go see this… the part of Ladd will be played by Memphis’ own Pat Halloran, namesake of the theater and president of the Orpheum for many, many years. Tickets are $50-250. Proceeds from the production will go to the Creative Movement Studio at the Church Health Center in Crosstown.

Over at the Orpheum tonight will be Comedy’s Most Wanted Tour featuring five of the funniest “damn” comedians on the planet: Lavell Crawford, Corey Holcomb, J.J. Williamson, Dominique, and DC Young Fly. DJ Traci Steele will entertain the crowd between sets.

There will be a house & disco music fitness festival today at Handy Park at Third and Beale, with music by Tj Carter and DJ Brandon McCarty of House in the Mid-South. Buy tickets to get up on stage and work out. There will also be vendors in the park promoting fitness and wellness.

The Union Mission posted that the ladies staying at Moriah House have some very specific needs right now. These include size 4, 5, and 6 diapers, bottles for 4-6 month olds, and canned goods. These can be dropped off at the administrative office at 170 Tillman 8 AM-5 PM Monday Friday, or anytime at 383 Poplar.

This is my second post today. Make sure to read about the sunset at The Front Porch at Beale Street Landing that I got to see last night too. With the storms long gone, it’s time to get out and enjoy a beautiful weekend in Memphis!
