Saturday update

It’s time to CALL THOSE HOGS!!! AP Sports called Arkansas vs. #15 TCU the game that has the potential to be the best of college football Week 2, and I find it hard to disagree. The Razorbacks have a chance to upset a ranked opponent and a former Southwest Conference foe on national TV. TCU has built one of the best football programs in the country the past 10 years, and to knock them off would make a statement and likely would push the Hogs into the Top 25. The game is on ESPN tonight at 6.

I could watch this game at my “home away from home on the south side” and the best sports bar in Memphis, Max’s Sports Bar, but since the game’s on national TV I will probably stick close to home. But Max, Mike and PBjaRni, don’t worry, you will see PLENTY of me later this football season.

Booker T. Jones returns to Memphis for a performance at the Halloran Centre tonight. One of the leading influences who defined modern soul, he provided the keyboard sound for legendary artists such as Ray Charles. He also produced albums for Rita Coolidge, Willie Nelson’s Stardust, Bill Withers, and others.

The donut shop at 8 S. Main is now serving lunch. Here is their menu:

Funnel cake for a lunch entree? That’s thinking outside the box. Kids all over Memphis will beg their parents to come there for lunch.

If you pass by a box containing the Memphis Daily News’ free weekly publication, be sure to pick one up. The cover story is about Eclectic Eye. My “DAWG” John D knows the owners and tells me they are super cool people, a husband-wife team who have built a very successful small business.

2016-09-05-16-04-19Happy Saturday, YOGA! Don’t forget that Bendy Brewski Yoga comes to the Memphis Made taproom today at 12 noon. This is a 45-minute all-levels yoga class, where you’ll get to do all kinds of bendy, stretchy Asanas like the Tree pose shown here. (Look, I even have my Memphis Made shirt on!) Following the yoga class is social time with your fellow yogis over great craft beer.

The Southern Heritage Classic Alumni After-Party takes place at Hard Rock Cafe tonight at 10. Note that means there will be extremely heavy traffic in the area of Second and Beale from about 9:00 on tonight. Plan extra time if you need to drive tonight.

Amy LaVere and George Sluppick play Loflin Yard tonight at 7.

Doing laundry and jamming to the Johnny Cash station on Pandora this morning. Debating a trip to the Farmers Market but Bardog at 11 will happen for sure. All of you in town for the Southern Heritage Classic today, welcome to Memphis!
