Fri update #2: Farmers Market and more news

Oh, my squash! is the theme at the Memphis Farmers Market this Saturday. We have reached the point in the year where you can still pick up summer squashes like yellow-neck, zucchini, and patty-pan; and you can also purchase debuting winter squashes like acorn, butternut, spaghetti, and delicata. Live music by Buck Hutcheson 8:30-10 and AMARIS 11-12:30. Dog adoptions by Real Good Dog Rescue 8 to noon. The Market happens every Saturday at the pavilion at the corner of Front and G.E. Patterson from 7 AM to 1 PM.

Have you ever thought about volunteering at the Farmers Market? Their volunteers do things like booth-sit when vendors need breaks, take out the trash, keep the bathrooms clean, work the information desk, do pet-sitting, and set up and tear down the market. If this sounds like something you would like to be a part of, you can join here.

Don’t forget that Farm Fest is only a little more than two weeks away! This is the Farmers Market’s big annual party, on Sunday, September 25 from 5 to 8 PM at Loflin Yard. Star & Micey will be rocking the live music. The great thing about the food is that because it’s from local farm vendors, nothing will be past the expiration date! Local restaurants will be supplying food too. Yummy beers and wines will be served. There will be silent and live auctions geared toward people like me (and hopefully you) who just can’t get enough of locally-produced food. Buy tickets here. $40 until the day before the party ($50 day of), $25 for vendors and volunteers, and $20 for non-alcohol. I’m sure it goes without saying that I WILL BE THERE at 5 that day, after a brief pre-gaming session at the Blind Bear from 11 to 4:30. I hope to see you there!

Fourth Bluff Fridays returns to Memphis Park at Front and Jefferson this evening from 4:30 to 9. The MDs (formerly Maitre’Ds) will provide the live music, and pop-up beer vendor Tap Box will be serving craft beer from local breweries. The Central BBQ and Joy Ride food trucks will be selling food. Feel free to bring your own blankets and lawn chairs.

Ted & the Scissormen play Loflin Yard tonight at 7.

There’s a new food truck debuting at Memphis Made’s taproom tonight called A Taste of Wisconsin. I can’t find any info, and it doesn’t seem to be on social media. Anyone got info on this truck?

NOAA reports that summer nights were the hottest ever this year.

The public is invited to a 9/11 Remembrance Service Sunday at 8:45 AM at the Fire Museum at 118 Adams.

Great news from local blues musician Eric Hughes. The guitars that were stolen out of his van last week. They have been located by MPD in a couple of area pawn shops, and although it will take a little while for him to get them back, he will eventually. Stellar work by MPD.

Love the soul food served at Alcenia’s? Learn to cook it! Healing the Soul, the cookbook featuring the restaurant’s recipes, is now on sale.

That’s it for this post. May stop by and check out the Fourth Bluff event this evening.
