June 19 update

Kind of a depressing Monday… today would have been my mom’s birthday. Forgive me if this post is not one of my best.

Jennifer Biggs of the CA is writing a new column called First Bites. Not a review, this column will take a look at new restaurants shortly after they open, to give readers an idea of what to expect. Covered today is The Front Porch, the Beale Street Landing restaurant opened by the Majestic Grille owners Patrick and Deni Reilly.

Wahlburgers will be opening this fall at 349 Beale. The burger chain is the brainchild of chef Paul Wahlberg and his celebrity brothers Donnie and Marky Mark. It will be opening in the location that was previously intended to be a Sweetie Pie’s.

A man was attacked, stabbed with a vaporizer at Purple Haze Saturday night. I used to go there to hang out late-night with my service industry friends, but haven’t in a couple of years. I so miss having the Black Diamond as a late-night option.

Downtown Yoga has announced a workshop on back bends and heart openers for Saturday, July 22 from 2 to 4 PM.

Former Memphis Tiger DeAngelo Williams, having spent 11 seasons in the NFL, is trying a new career. On Saturday, June 15, he will wrestle in a tag team match on the Slammiversary pay-per-view for Impact Wrestling (formerly TNA Wrestling).

This article about Trump scrubbing his daughter Ivanka’s name from various shell companies is interesting, but not because of what it says about Ivanka. Scroll down to the last paragraph. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is said to be caught up in the Trump-Russia investigation, and he’s starting to realize his best chance to avoid jail time is to rat on his Senate counterpart Mitch McConnell and not further impede the ongoing investigation in any way.

That’s it for now… I’ll probably do Melissa Monday happy hour at Bardog after work. Back tomorrow.
