Rappel off One Commerce Square + more Tuesday news

Here’s a unique opportunity for you: You have the chance to rappel off the One Commerce Square at Main and Monroe on Saturday, August 29. The event is called Over the Edge Memphis and is a fundraiser for the Special Olympics. It is open to the first 75 people who do the following: Be at least 14 years old by the day of the event, have a body weight of 300 pounds or less by the event date, and raise a minimum of $1000 by the event date. Participants will get a Special Olympics Over the Edge T-shirt, a goodie bag from Special Olympics partners, and free admission for you and a guest to the Over the Edge reception/party the night before. There will be awards and prizes for top fundraisers.

I see we have jokes: A couple of hours after I posted the contest to name the Moody Ques’ new smoker, I got a text: “On behalf of Squeal Street, we would like to submit the name Igloo for your new cooker name.” Funny. Maybe we should have a contest to name the trophies our team won in 2014 and 2015. That’s not a contest Squeal Street could run, so they would have to sit on the sidelines and drink their pudding shots and watch.

Thanks to those of you who have sent in serious suggestions about a name for the smoker. I have forwarded them on to the cooks.
